Project Overview

MAZE Partner Andrew Watt was privileged to be involved, from the outset, in advising Sterling Capitol on the development of a contemporary apartment scheme of outstanding quality in Manchester City Centre’s historic Castlefield Basin. The highly distinctive Ian Simpson designed development of vacant land fronting Chester Road provides two futuristic, multi faceted, gem like blocks of development.

Detailed planning permission was granted for the 12 storey 90 unit scheme in December 2003, just 9 weeks after submission to Manchester City Council. The rapid approval flowed directly from several months invested in pre-application consultation with the City Council which ensured the scheme was in the best possible shape and had the all important support of English Heritage.

The site has since been acquired by Howard Holdings plc and MAZE has provided advice in relation to implementation and alternative development scenario.
